The first of many I'm afraid...

On Friday I was sitting on my bed, feeding James. Kyson was up on the bed with me holding our automatic blood pressure cuff. Clark had just gotten home from class. Kyson stepped over my legs, tripped and fell off our bed. His left arm was holding the blood pressure machine. Clark helped him up and he cried for a minute, but then stopped and seemed fine. But when Clark pulled up his sleeve to look at his arm...we looked at each other...and quickly started getting ready to go to the hospital. His arm looked so deformed and bent. We gave him a little ibuprofen, his binkie and blanket and headed out the door.

In the ER they took X-rays, and we found out that his left radius was fractured, and his left ulna was bowed with no visible fracture. We had to wait a couple hours until the orthopedic surgeon was done with surgery and could come look at him. When he came he said it was a weird fracture, and that he might have to break the ulna to get it back where it needed to be, so he wanted to take him to the operating room for surgery.

They started an IV on him...and he didn't even flinch. It's amazing what the binkie and Thomas the Train can do for a kid! They also gave him a little toy motorcycle, and let him decorate his gas mask with stickers. Then they wheeled him away from us...he was all smiles and was waving "bye mommy, bye daddy..."

He was done in about 45 minutes and back to us. I was so glad Clark was there with me because I had to feed James and Kyson wanted to sit on someones lap. So we stayed for about another hour to make sure he could eat and drink okay.

The only time he cried at the hospital is when we told him he had to take off the clown hospital pants that they had him wearing so we could go home.

Clark bought him the Lorax movie and we got him a little seat set up in the front room. He was on pain medication for a couple days, but is off of it now, and it doesn't seem to bother him too much now. Every now and then he'll ask me to take his splint off, and I have to tell him that his arm is broken and he has to leave it on for a LONG time.

We got back on Monday to get his splint taken off and a hard cast put on.

See previous post about us wearing gloves around the house...when the nurse put on his gloves to start his IV, Kyson insisted that he have gloves on too!

Motorcycle...they couldn't have picked a better toy to give him. In fact, he's napping right now...and he still has that little motorcycle in one of his hands.

yeah...that bend...it's not his elbow, that his forearm...

All done...bring on the apple juice and grahams!

Happy about life because we let him have his binkie out of his bed for about two days straight.

He was a trooper, Clark and both give him a 10/10 for hospital behavior.
In fact, I'm pretty sure I would have cried more than he did!

Every Day Life

I feel like we're getting back to a regular schedule now and plugging along. Clark's super busy with school, work, the farm, and being an awesome Dad and Husband. I stay busy with the two boys, drying apples, keeping up with the mail (a job Clark used to do, but has recently turned over to me...haha...I hate bills, filing, etc!) and emptying the slop buckets! (Brenda, I don't know how you've gone so long without a disposal!)

Here's a couple pictures from our life!

Clark's been wearing gloves around lately while he practices dressing changes, medication administration, etc, and Kyson doesn't like to miss out on anything. So we frequently eat things with sterile gloves on...why not?!

Kyson loves having Baby James lie with him in bed. He sure is a sweet big brother. James is a pretty sweet little brother to be so patient with all the "love" he gets every second of the day!

Kyson is a great sharer for a 2.5 year old. I often find James covered with cars, trucks, and farm animals!

A week with my mom

My Mom came up for a week to help me with James/Kyson. It was SO nice to have her here, and we were all sad to see her go. She had something new and fun for Kyson to do every day. I must seem pretty boring after her!

Clark also had his 29th birthday on October 7th, and we had a little party while my family was here. My Dad and Blake, Tyler, Aubrey and Lauren drove up on Sunday to see James and watch conference  with us. I felt a little bad for Clark, he had two gifts to open, and Kyson had a pile of gifts that people had given him for when his baby brother came. Sometimes it stinks to get old!

While my Mom was here we went and gleaned potatoes, went shopping, got all of Clark's suits dry-cleaned ( it has been 8 years since he had any of them cleaned!), dried apples and I got a nap every day! She cooked, she cleaned, and she stayed up with James every night until 1:00 am so that I could get a little sleep. What a saint!

Kyson loves wearing our glasses, and he has recently discovered my headbands. He is awesome.
This is what I get to wake up to every day! It's pretty easy to love this little guy!

Angie and I tried to take some newborn photos of James. Kuddos to all you photographers out there, because it was hard. James was wide awake and wouldn't do any of the cute poses we saw on pinterest! Angie edited these ones up and I think they are pretty cute!

Sweet Baby James!

I've only been to one concert in my life...James Taylor...and for the last 9 months I've his song "Sweet Baby James" in my mind. After Kyson was born, Clark and I decided that if we ever had another baby we would name him James Douglas after both of our dad's. Clark's Dad's name is James LeRoy Wyatt, but he has always gone by Roy, and my Dad's name is Douglas, so we thought we could name him after his two incredible Grandpa's. So, when we found out it was a boy, he was baby James already. And boy is he sweet. He is calm, chill and has already won us over!

So here's the birth story...it will probably be long...but I want it recorded somewhere.

I went to the Doctor on October 1st. I was dilated 2 cm...this was no big news, I'd been like this since 36 weeks! The doctor said that he would like to induce me Friday, October 5th if I hadn't had the baby by then since I have a history of BIG babies. I said, gladly! So the plan was induction Friday morning at 7:30 am. I woke up Friday morning at 3:00 am with strong contractions, but they were still 10 minutes apart. I got up and showered and started getting ready to leave, and the contractions remained 10-12 minutes apart. We left our house at 6:30 to drop Kyson off at Don and Angie's. When we were almost to their house, the hospital called and said they were too busy and wouldn't be able to induce me. Thanks for the notice...that would have been nice to know before I woke my two year old up!

Dropping Kyson off at Angie's

However, since we live 30 minutes from town, and I was having regular contractions, I decided to go in and get checked, and make sure that I hadn't progressed before I drove all the way home. I had to wait 2 hours to even get into a room to get checked. Meanwhile, Clark had to leave and go take a test. So I walked the halls and finally got into a room. The doctor came in to check me and I was dilated to 4 cm, so he said I'd better stay and not drive home.

They got an IV started (after three attempts, I don't know what it is with my veins because they look great to me, I'd love a chance to start an IV on myself to see what the deal is!) and got pitocin started. My contractions actually slowed down at this point and I couldn't even feel them anymore, so I slept and watched "Everyone loves Raymond." The doctor came in, interrupted my nap, and broke my water. Once he did this things got moving. My contractions were suddenly every 5 minutes and strong, luckily Clark finished his test about this time and was with me. I told the nurse I would hold off for awhile on the epidural because with Kyson I got it when I was 3 cm and I didn't really feel much of labor...in fact with Kyson the nurse woke me up from a wonderful nap, told me I was 10 cm and that I needed to push. I didn't feel a thing, squinted my eyes so the doctor would think I was pushing, and out came Kyson...it was glorious!

They checked me again and I was 6 cm and contractions were every 2 minutes. I was ready for the epidural by this point, and they came into do it. However, it took FOREVER to get the epidural in, the CRNA couldn't do it and had to go get the anesthesiologist. By the time they got it in I was seriously hurting, and they said it would kick in within 20 minutes. So I waited for it to kick in...and waited...and it might have started to help when suddenly the pain increased severely and I called the nurse and told her that I was in serious pain and that I had to poop. She came running in, checked me and I was 10 cm and she started setting things up like mad. I kept telling her that she needed to get someone to turn up my epidural...but she said..."honey it's too late, you just need to push!"

What?!? Too late?!? Didn't I just pay 900$ so that I wouldn't have to feel this?!

Long story short, I started pushing at 4:00 pm, and James was born at 4:46 pm. His head was 38 cm...and normal is 33 cm...which is why they said it took so long to push. Considering I felt nothing with Kyson's birth...this was quite painful in comparison...but it's over and we are both healthy and happy!

They were so busy that they didn't have a postpartum room for us and put us on the women's floor, where post-hysterectomy patients go. It wasn't the greatest hospital experience because the nurses taking care of us weren't used to babies, and I felt like they were clueless when I would ask them a question. We went home the next day.

Angie brought Kyson up that night to meet his baby brother. Kyson was instantly in love and hasn't stopped wanting to be next to baby James at all times. A BIG thanks to Don and Angie for watching Kyson so Clark could stay at the hospital with me. And for providing him shoes...since I forgot to pack him any!

So welcome baby James! We love you!
